I caught this story in one of my news feeds. When I saw the headline I thought that is was about an increased interest in homebrewing. The title was, “Boston explosion: Unconfirmed local speculation of home brewing at unit” The local police are still not sure what caused the explosion. However, several people around said that they believed it to be moonshiners. I call the process of making moonshine the process of distillation.
It may seem like a nitpicking issue that distillation is not homebrewing. The comparison of homebrewing to illegal distillation was one of the arguments was made on the Alabama House floor when they killed a bill that would have made home brewing legal in that state. Many of the other arguments brought up by house members were equally false.
My point is illegal distillation can be very dangerous and can lead to explosions where people get hurt. Homebrewing is about as dangerous as cooking. It is also a hobby that is legal in 48 states, including Massachusetts. My only fear is that a perfectly legal hobby will get lumped in with illegal activities if that was the cause of this explosion. You can check out the details in this article
